Important Enrolment Information Year 6 into Year 7

As Merewether High School is an Academically Selective School the enrolment process is different to the process outlined at the bottom of this page:

  • for all Y7 enrolment procedures please visit Selective High Schools and note application for Y7 enrolment at a Selective School must be made in Y5, the entrance exam is conducted in Y6
  • for latter year enrolment information read Merewether High Y8-Y12 Enrolment Policy
  • there is no entrance test for Year 8 to Year 12, positions are offered based on applications received and are subject to availability of a position

Entry into Year 7 2024

Dates for applying for Year 7 2024 are: applications open 18 October 2022, applications close 16 November 2022, Selective High School Placement Test 4 May 2023. Please view our Y7 2023 Parent Information powerpoint presentation outlining information about our school, the outstanding academic outcomes we achieve, the support we provide our high potential and gifted students and the extensive range of extracurricular activities on offer.

Entry to Years 8 - 12

Applications for 2023 open on the Tuesday 21 June 2022 and close on the Friday 22 July 2022. The Application Form is available to download from the Selective High Schools website. It is suggested the following information be included with the application:

  • a covering letter
  • a copy of your child's birth certificate
  • proof of citizenship or permanent residency
  • copies of the last two years school reports - including first semester of current year
  • a copy of your child's most recent NAPLAN results
  • copies of academic awards
  • any other information which may assist the panel to assess your child's academic achievements

All applications are considered by a panel consisting of the Principal, Deputy Principal and a parent/community representative. The panel meets in Term 3 and applicants are advised of the outcome in Term 4. Waiting lists are established and these remain current until the end of Term 1 the following year. A new application must be lodged each year if you wish to be considered for future placement.

Distance education

Distance education is an equity program for students who are geographically isolated or whose individual circumstances prevent them from regularly attending school. Students must meet one of the conditions in the Distance Education Enrolment Procedures to be eligible to access this program as a full-time student. Distance education schools also provide single subjects for students in Years 9 to 12 to enhance curriculum choice.
