Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE)
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) is mandatory from Kindergarten to Year 10. PDHPE provides students with opportunities to explore issues concerning the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others, now and in the future. Students also participate in challenging and enjoyable physical activity, improving their capacity to move with skill and confidence.
Personal Development, Health and Physical Education at Merewether High School
Theory Lessons
Our theory lessons explore the science of health, movement and performance. Students develop their understanding of anatomy, fitness, nutrition and wellbeing, applying this knowledge to enhance participation and performance in both lifelong physical activity and sport.
Practical Lessons
In practical lessons, students develop skills in movement, strategy, teamwork and leadership through a variety of sports and physical activities.
Integrated Lessons
Theoretical understanding and practical application come together as students create, perform and reflect to deepen understanding and showcase their learning.
Sport
Sport at Merewether High School is a valued and mandatory component of the whole-school curriculum for Years 7 -10. It provides students with regular opportunities to be active, socialise and develop lifelong movement skills. Through weekly participation, students explore a wide range of activities and environments that promote teamwork, inclusivity and enjoyment of physical activity beyond the classroom.
