Monologue Competition!

The Merewether High School Monologue Competition returns! Students are encouraged to submit a video of a chosen monologue considering the theme, “CHALLENGES”. Their monologue can be from any film, television show, novel, play, or something of their own writing! The due date is Tuesday the 5th of October -  Week 1, Term 4. All submissions must be no longer than five minutes and no shorter than one minute. Submissions are to be sent to Miss Roxby. Good luck and happy monologuing!

Y7 and Y8 Music

Year 7 and 8 Music have been participating well in listening and theory skill activities whilst learning from home. The Music teachers are so proud of the creativity that they have been showing in these activities. Students have contributed to a MHS Year 7 and MHS Year 8 Spotify playlist that has been shared in their Music Google Classroom. There are opportunities for students to practise and submit performance videos through Flipgrid as an optional task if they would like. Students can speak to or email their music teacher for details.

Y10 Music

Our Year 10 Elective Music class has been enjoying the time at home to practice their instruments, and last Thursday performed in a short recital for each other over Zoom. The students are working towards a performance assessment in Term 4, where they will play a piece of 20th Century Art Music on their chosen instruments. We wish them all the best with their continued study and music practise while in lockdown.

Y11 & HSC Music

Year 11 and HSC MUSIC were fortunate to be able to present their Performance Programs in Weeks 2 and 3 this term, just before we were thrown into Learning from Home.

These students prepared solo and ensemble items where many hours were spent rehearsing with accompanists and fellow students. The talent coming from these classes is of the highest calibre. COVID-19 threw HSC students a curveball in Week 5 when NESA made the announcement that the external HSC Performance exams would not take place.

After spending the last 12 months preparing for these exams, it was disappointing, but they have taken it in their stride and are grateful for having presented their full program to one of MHS’s music teachers and a teacher from an external school earlier in the term.

CAPA staff would like to take this opportunity to thank HSC Music students for their commitment and dedication to their Music course and we wish them all the best for the future.

Y7 Visual Arts

Year 7 Visual Arts have been exploring hybridised creatures while they have been learning from home and have created some unique and creepy creatures! The app that Year 7 used was Digital Cultures. Try it out at home! Students also completed a case study on Australian Ceramicist Merran Esson and will complete a ceramic creature once they return to school.

Y8 Visual Arts

Year 8 have been working on their For the Wild Showbag, creating Logo designs that will be turned into stickers and magnets. And 8 Art 3 have been experimenting with a  website called Switch Zoo to create hybrid creatures set in their natural habitat.

Y9 Photography

Year 9 Photographic and Digital Media have been busy working from home, by creating “A Day in the Life” photo challenges! Here we have a selection from Feeling Blue and All things sunny shootout challenges. Year 9 have also made short films documenting their days as well as a film study on Director Tim Burton. Keep up the great work Year 9!

HSC Visual Arts

HSC Visual Arts students this week were able to attend workshops supported by Mrs Watson and Miss Roxby to work on their HSC Body of Work. Students were able to work in the Visual Arts rooms for 2 hours on Tuesday and Thursday, following the Department guidelines of wearing masks, social distancing and QR check in. Following these guidelines enabled students to work under the guidance of their teachers and feel encouraged by working in a creative environment with their peers. This was an excellent opportunity for our students and we feel very lucky to be able to engage in some onsite learning!
