Our school and local government area (LGA) has continued to be impacted by stay at home orders for the past 3 weeks. Endeavouring to communicate quickly, decisively and accurately regarding these orders and about Learning from Home and school operations has been a priority for our school.

We will continue to maintain communication via email, posting to our Facebook page, using the school’s website and conducting student Zoom meetings whenever we are updated regarding the evolving situation in NSW.

Like many other schools across NSW, we moved rapidly into Learning from Home on Level 4 restrictions.  Merewether High School staff have been committed to delivering quality teaching, learning and assessment opportunities for our students during this period.

Students have been doing an incredible job continuing with their learning, showcasing their resilience and autonomy.

Our approach to continue with assessment plans maintains our commitment to delivering ongoing continuity of teaching, learning, assessment and reporting throughout Covid.

If any student is negatively impacted by COVID-19 and needs to apply for illness or misadventure, please ensure that you continue to follow our school processes and notify staff if there are any circumstances impacting your child. All circumstances are assessed on an individual basis and concerted efforts will be made to ensure that no student is disadvantaged because of the impact of COVID-19.

I understand and am empathetic to the challenges we are all facing, balancing competing priorities and demands, in both our professional and personal lives.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our parents and carers, who are also navigating these unchartered waters with us.

You are doing a remarkable job ensuring our students have both a supportive and loving home environment, while continuing your own work and home responsibilities.

As we make decisions regarding the operations of the school, I would like to reassure our learning community that every effort is being made to prioritise the health, wellbeing and learning of our entire school community. The overwhelming support and praise that both the teaching staff and school has received throughout the lockdown has been greatly appreciated.

These unprecedented and uncertain times do require full trust of the school’s leadership team. We will continue to follow the advice of NSW Health, the NSW Department of Education and do everything in our power to safeguard the wellbeing and learning of all students.
