Deputies' Report

It is hard to believe that we are writing our final bulletin article for 2022. After 2 years of disruption we have been very fortunate that throughout 2022 we have been able to resume many activities that have been on hold during COVID.

Whilst the school year is drawing to an end, it is fantastic to see so many of our students and staff enthusiastically involving themselves in a range of curricular and co-curricular activities. Over the next few weeks we have students representing us in public speaking, water polo, cricket and finalising rehearsals for our school presentation assemblies and production of Alice in Wonderland.

Throughout week 8, our students in Years 7 and 8 will engage in Learning Reflection meetings. These meetings provide a valuable opportunity for students to work in groups to reflect on their achievements, share their successes and set goals for 2023.

Week 8 will also see our Year 9 students heading off on their 2 night Urban Challenge camp where they will have the opportunity to work in teams to overcome challenges and navigate their way around Sydney. This camp provides an opportunity for students to further develop stronger peer connections whilst also developing an increased appreciation of their own and the individual strengths of their peers.

Prior to the end of term, we will also welcome our new Year 7 2023 students to Merewether for their orientation day. Our Year 9 students have undertaken peer support training and have already started working with our incoming Yr. 7 students to support their positive transition to high school. Our peer support program is pivotal in ensuring our students make a safe, happy and productive transition to high school and it has been wonderful watching our Year 9 students working alongside, and mentoring, our new Year 7 students at the Challenge day.

On the evening of Thursday the 8 December we are looking forward to watching our students from our Drama Ensemble, Vocal Ensemble, Orchestra and Media and Events Team and various staff working collaboratively to present a whole school production of Alice in Wonderland. Tickets for this production are only $15 each and are available through the school office. Watching the work of our staff and students come together in this production will be a fantastic way to finish the end of the school year.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

After approximately 2 years of consultation, it is fantastic to see our new uniform items slowly being purchased and worn at school. The most notable change has been to our sports shirt and shorts and the range of jumpers that students can choose to wear in cooler weather. In this bulletin we have included information and images of our new and updated uniform. We have a 2 year transition period for the implementation of this uniform during which time students are able to wear either uniform. New students, and those transitioning to our Senior uniform, are encouraged to purchase the new items available through the uniform shop. As always we will continue to provide students with uniforms from our pool if needed. Students are encouraged to come and speak with either Deputy if they do require additional items of uniform.

As the year draws to a close, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all students, staff and our families for another wonderful year. We are very fortunate to work with such an exceptional range of students. Finally, we would like to wish students and their families a safe and happy holiday full of laughter, love and happiness. We are looking forward to working with you all in 2023.
