We have had significant success in both KO and CHS sport so far this year. We continue to represent the school in the following teams who have almost all advanced third and fourth rounds of their Knockout competition: Open Boys; Hockey, basketball, volleyball, AFL, cricket and softball; Open Girls, Netball, Volleyball and Cricket; Junior Boys: Basketball, Netball and Cricket; Junior Girls: Basketball and Netball.
OUTSTANDING TEAMS
We currently have the Boys Open Hockey Team, the Open Girls Football team and the Girls Open Netball Teams down to the last couple of teams in the State in their respective competitions. A great achievement and hopefully will see some silverware by the end of the year.
OPEN BOYS HOCKEY
Last Term Miss Baeger's Mighty Moo's, had the two biggest games of their lives. Their first game was against a strong Whitebridge High School outfit, which were expected to be our hardest opposition of the day. The brothers Jubb (Jubb 1, Jubb 2) quickly proved this expectation wrong, combining for 3 beautiful goals in the first half. This outstanding performance was reinforced by debutant Ryan (Ryon), proving himself by putting his body on the line like only a true Moo would. The young guns Evan Simes (Simesy) and Riley Osborne (Ozzy) both had a blinder. The second half was dominated by our strikers James (Burkey), Max (Boysy) and Fergus (Ferg) who put on a clinic, running rings around the Whitebridge defence, securing our first victory of the day.
Game two was a must win for us to be crowned Hunter Hockey Champion and was against a confident Taree High School side. We started off slow, going down by one in the first quarter, giving Taree a false sense of security. This plan worked out perfectly as we caught them off guard with a strong comeback in the second quarter, led by our engines Joseph (Jgilly) and Robert (Bobsy) who connected our defence to our attack, tearing the Taree midfield to shreds and our wall Charlie (Chaz) in goals.
Special shoutout to Evan Simes (Simesy) who has been chosen in the U15 NSW State squad and the brothers Gremm, who are not only great writers, but also undisputable as coach and teammates. Story by Jonathan Gremm.
OPEN GIRLS FOOTBALL
The Opens Girls football team have successfully qualified for the Puma Trophy Semi-Finals, coached by Mr Hansen and Ms Corney. After a convincing win against Toronto High School, the team battled hard for a 3-2 win against Warners Bay High School. Soon after, the girls defeated Whitebridge High School 7-1, and then went on to have convincing wins against Rutherford High School and Colo High School, both with a 7-0 result. The victory against Rutherford, crowned the girls champions of the Hunter Region. The girls found themselves in the top 8 of the state, travelling up to Bellingen (Near Coffs Harbour) for a vital game in their goal to become state champions. With the opposition's whole school in attendance, the stakes were high. Heading into the shed at halftime, 1-0 up, the girls were determined to maintain the momentum. Despite the pressure applied from Bellingen High, the girls managed to score another two goals, securing their spot in the top 4 of the state. The girls look to continue their winning streak heading to Sydney on the 16th of August to take on Mackellar Girls High School. Story by Katerina Papaspiropoulos.
OPEN GIRLS NETBALL
On Tuesday of week 2, the Opens Girls netball team played in the regional final to gain a place at CHS State netball held in Wollongong. As the reigning hunter champions, we had a point to prove, with state being cancelled last year due to COVID. We knew it would be a tough game, as Warners Bay were looking to beat us, as we took away their chances of state last year. After a strong start from both us and Warners Bay, we led by 2 coming into the second quarter. Still on our run, we finished the 2nd quarter up by 4, and the 3rd quarter up by 6. After a gruelling last quarter, it was neck and neck, but eventually the girls ran away with a 5 point win, the final score settling at 37-32. We are now off to Wollongong in Week 7 to play against a strong competition at State on Tuesday 30 and Wednesdasy 31 August. Story by Isabella Thwaites.

DASH & NOTIFYING THE SCHOOL

DASH forms will require Parents to sign first, then the HT PDHPE and finally the Office. Many thanks for your assistance.
